SAMPLE BOARD RESOLUTION SUPPORTING
LEE GROUP RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT
WHEREAS, The [NAME] Board of Education recognizes the laudable goals set forth in the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), such as ensuring that all students are proficient in core academic areas by 2014; and
WHEREAS, The implementation of the Act is having unintended consequences for students, parents, teachers, and schools in New Jersey that go against the spirit and intent of the Act; and
WHEREAS, The Leadership for Educational Excellence (LEE) Group is composed of New Jersey’s major educational associations, including the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, New Jersey Association of School Business Officials, New Jersey Congress of Parents and Teachers, New Jersey Education Association, New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association, and New Jersey School Boards Association; and
WHEREAS, The LEE Group came together to propose solutions to NCLB’s implementation problems; and
WHEREAS, These diverse groups all agreed that certain key areas of NCLB are in need of improvement; and
WHEREAS, The LEE Group’s proposed solutions are outlined in its report, Standards, Accountability and Common Sense; and
WHEREAS, The [NAME] Board of Education endorses the proposed solutions set forth as recommendations in the LEE Group report; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the [NAME] Board of Education urges the President and Congress of the United States to improve the No Child Left Behind Act by adopting the recommendations set forth in the LEE Group report, Standards Accountability and Common Sense; and, further, be it
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution and the LEE Group report be sent to each member of the United States Senate and House of Representatives elected from this State and to the New Jersey School Boards Association.
