School Board Elections in November Move One Step Closer

If the Assembly Education Committee has its way, the next time you run for your school board seat your main competition may be U.S. Attorney Chris Christie or Governor Corzine himself , or perhaps both.  No, I do not mean that they will be your opposition for school board.  However, as possible gubernatorial candidates, they will be competing for the attention of the same voters as you, since the committee voted to release A-15, a bill that moves school board member elections to November.  Although NJSBA, NJEA, and some individual board members argued against moving the election to November, the committee was not swayed by their concerns about placing school board elections in a partisan political environment.  From my conversations with some legislators, this bill was destined to pass and the committee hearing was a mere formality.  (more…)

Assembly Education Committee asks - Does the DOE have the manpower to do the job?

Writing a blog once or twice a week can sometimes become a bit draining.  It’s not easy to come up with fresh material, but then again when the NJ Legislature — and specifically when the Assembly Education Committee –is in session I can come out with more material than I know what to do with.  Such was the case at the last Assembly Education Committee Meeting.  I have enough material for two blog articles.
