Organized by the National School Boards Association (NSBA), the Federal Relations Network (FRN) is a nationwide, grassroots education advocacy network that seeks to influence the national education agenda. Local board members from every congressional district in the country join the FRN through their state school boards associations. Working in tandem with NSBA, the state delegations provide an effective one-two punch aimed at ensuring federal programs work well for public schools. Each year’s advocacy campaign begins with the Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, DC, followed by intense lobbying from the local level. Members work throughout the year to cultivate strong relationships with federal legislators by calling, faxing, e-mailing, writing and visiting congressional offices. Over the years, the program has been a tremendous success. In fact, many senators and representatives rely on local FRN members to advise them on the vast array of issues that affect public school children. .
