Settlement Rates in Perspective

Updated: 3/15/2012

Of the districts who have reached an agreement since 1/1/2011 for the 2011-12 school year and have reported their settlement to NJSBA, 20% reported an increase below 2.0%, which includes 7 districts which have reported a wage freeze for the 2011-12 school year, and the majority of districts (42%) have reported increases between 2.0% and 2.25%. Please be aware that there are approximately 30 districts who have not yet reached an agreement covering the 2010-11 school year, and approximately 100 who are currently in negotiations for the 2011-12 school year. Additionally, there will be approximately 190 collective bargaining agreements that will expire on 6/30/2012, many of which are just beginning the negotiations process. NJSBA will survey those districts in June for the status of their negotiations at that point. There are currently several tentative agreements pending ratification (NJSBA does not report settlements until they are fully ratified), therefore, please check back for ongoing updates.

*NOTE: Districts are asked to supply their settlement increases inclusive of increment. Those which have reported a wage freeze to NJSBA are indicating that there will be no increment (i.e. no step advancement) and teachers will be frozen at their current rate of pay for one year. All settlement information is reported to NJSBA through surveys of the district administration offices.

If your district has recently concluded negotiation with your teachers' unit and haven't yet reported the settlement to NJSBA, please contact Sandy Raup, Data Analyst, at sraup@njsba.org.
