Charles A. Allbee, a school board member in Burlington County for 35 years and an NJSBA Board of Directors member, died July 2 in Marlton. He was 86.
According to NJSBA records, he served on the Evesham Township Board of Education for three decades, from 1973 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2008. On Nov. 19, 2009, the library at the Marlton Middle School was dedicated in his honor.
He also served on the board of education for the Burlington County Special Services School District from 1992 to 1998, according to NJSBA records.
He was a member of NJSBA’s Board of Directors from 1985 to 1994, and he was an alternate Board of Directors member from 1994 to 1998. He served on NJSBA’s Legislative Committee, and he was involved in the Burlington County School Boards Association.
Mr. Allbee taught high school social studies in Ridley Township, Penn., and Hyde Park, N.Y., before teaching for nearly 30 years at Burlington County College, where he retired as professor emeritus. A U.S. Army veteran who served in WWII, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He leaves his wife, Mary; a son, Charles W. Allbee of Marlton; and a daughter, Mary Slowinski of Toms River; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is from 9:45 -10:45 a.m. Friday, July 6, at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 1989 Marlton Pike East, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034, followed by a service at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J. Arrangements are by the Bradley Funeral Home, Marlton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’ memory to St. Bartholomew’s Church (at the above address); or the Charles A.
