‘Super’ County Superintendent, November Election on Monday’s Senate Agenda

On Monday, Jan. 22, the state Senate is scheduled to act on bills that would create the position of “super” county superintendent and would move school board member elections to November.

These bills – A-4 and S-10 – would affect every local school district in New Jersey.

1. Contact your state Senator today!


2. Urge your Senator to vote against these bills!
   To find your state Senator’s telephone number and email address, consult the NJSBA Legislative Directory or visit the state Legislature’s Web site.


3. Tell your Senator that these proposals:

• Will not reduce property taxes.
• Will hurt children’s education by turning public school matters into partisan political issues.
• Will increase costs by creating a large county-level bureaucracy.

Thanks to your previous efforts, the Senate version of this proposal does not include provisions to move school board member elections to November. I believe that our collective voice can also persuade the Senate to consider the costs and educational consequences of creating “super” executive county superintendent offices.
