The following are the New Jersey State Department of Education’s budget-related deadlines for school districts for the 2002 Annual School Election. The dates are pending approval of S-1099/A-1690, a bill that would grant the education commissioner authority to change the election calendar.

Date Activity

Friday, March 15: Last day for all districts to submit itemized budget and supporting documentation to the department.

Saturday, March 16: Last day to advertise for earliest public hearing.

Thursday, March 21: Earliest day to hold public hearing.  Last day to advertise for latest public hearing.

Tuesday, March 26: Governor’s Budget Address.  Last day to hold public hearing and to adopt budget prior to Election.

Wednesday, March 27 (Noon): Deadline to submit public statement to county clerk for preparation of absentee ballots and election machines.

Monday, April 8 Last day for board of school estimate in Type I districts and Type II districts to adopt budget and certify amount of local funds to be appropriated. Last day for Type I districts and Type II districts with a board of school estimate to provide budget statement certification to the department.
