Voters to Decide $141 Million in School Construction Tuesday

TRENTON, March 5, 2009—Voters in five school districts will decide $141 million of proposed school construction on Tuesday, the New Jersey School Boards Association reported today.

Of the $141 million requested, nearly $32 million would qualify for state aid. The state has been providing construction funding through annual “debt service aid” to school districts.

School boards may schedule bond referendums on five specific dates a year. After Tuesday’s vote, the next date that school board may place a school-construction question on the ballot is the Annual School Election, on April 21. During the Annual School Election, voters also act on proposed school district operating budgets and elect board of education members.

Details of Tuesday’s school construction proposals are below.
