Voters Approve $164.6 Million in School Construction
TRENTON, April 23, 2009—Voters approved 15 of the construction referendums in 19 districts on Tuesday for a total of $164.6 million in school construction, according to the New Jersey School Boards Association.
Tuesday, April 21 was the Annual School Election, the date when voters in 90 percent of New Jersey school districts elected school board members and voted on their districts’ annual budgets. The Annual School Election is also one of five dates a year on which school boards can propose referendum questions on construction projects. The remaining dates for school bond elections this year are Sept. 29 and Dec. 8.
Of the total amount of construction proposals approved on April 21, more than $41.6 million will be eligible for state school-facilities reimbursement.
