TRENTON, January 27, 2010—Voters in two of nine New Jersey school districts approved $10.35 million in school construction on Tuesday, the New Jersey School Boards Association reported today. A total of $293.7 million was on the ballot. Of the total amount approved, $3.64 million will qualify for state funds, either through one-time school-construction grants, annual “debt service aid” payments to school districts, or rebates through the state’s Clean Energy program. School boards may hold special elections on five specific dates a year. The next date on which a school board may schedule a bond referendum question is March 9. Details of Tuesday’s school construction proposals are below.
New Jersey School Construction Referendum Results STATEWIDE Total amount approved – $10,355,248 ($293,780,967 requested) Amount eligible for state reimbursement – $3,641,022 (may include up-front school-construction grants, annual payments of debt service aid, or Clean Energy rebates)
BERGEN COUNTY Wood-Ridge – Rejected (both questions) Proposal 1: Additions and renovations, including new classrooms and science labs, boilers, solar panels, and roof repairs. Total amount – $14,922,540 Amount eligible for state reimbursement – $3,418,754
