Voters Approve $19.2 million in School Construction
TRENTON, January 26, 2011—Voters in three of the five New Jersey school districts holding school bond referendums on Tuesday approved $19.2 million in school construction, the New Jersey School Boards Association reported today.
Of the total amount that was approved, more than $6.4 million would qualify for state funds.
School boards may hold special elections on five specific dates a year. The next date on which a school board may schedule a bond referendum question is March 8.
Results of Tuesday’s school construction proposals are below.

Total amount approved – $19,254,156 ($81,724,782 requested)
Amount eligible for state reimbursement – $13,475,480 (may include up-front school-construction grants, annual payments of debt service aid, or Clean Energy rebates)
BERGEN COUNTY
Lyndhurst - Rejected
Construct a new middle school, with facilities to be used jointly by township emergency management offices, other township groups and senior citizens. No state aid sought, although the school district anticipates a $7,000,000 contribution from the township’s Office of Emergency Management.

ESSEX COUNTY
Cedar Grove - Passed
Replace or repair roofs, windows, doors, HVAC and/or other improvements to four schools and administration building.
Total amount – $12,180,380
Amount eligible for state reimbursement – $4,597,995
GLOUCESTER COUNTY
East Greenwich Township - Rejected
Construction and addition and renovations to two schools, and purchase of land
Total amount – $25,470,626
Amount eligible for state reimbursement – $7,018,913
OCEAN COUNTY
Central Regional - Passed
Replace roofs and/or windows, undertake paving project and other renovations to high and middle schools
Total amount – $5,208,976
Amount eligible for state reimbursement – $1,095,630
WARREN COUNTY
Greenwich Township - Passed
Roof and window replacement at one school and drainage improvements at another school
Total amount – $1,864,800
Amount eligible for state reimbursement – $762,942
