Natural Gas Update

With the quintupling of commodity market natural gas prices over the last decade – even excluding the recent price run-ups following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita – natural gas costs have become an increasing concern for school districts throughout New Jersey. While there is no silver bullet to bring gas costs down to their early-2000s levels, the Alliance for Competitive Energy Services (ACES) has added natural gas purchasing to its successful electric supply buying program. The ACES electric-buying program has been saving New Jersey school districts money since 2000.

More than 225 school districts have already signed on as members of the ACES natural gas procurement program, which will begin this year. If your district hasn’t completed the paperwork to join this important effort, please contact ACES Coordinator Carol Friedman of Gabel Associates at (732) 296-0770 or by e-mail.

ACES is a venture of NJSBA, the New Jersey Association of School Administrators and the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials.
