Board-Superintendent Institute: Still Time to Register

NJSBA’s innovative Board-Superintendent Institute gives school board members and superintendents the opportunity to work together to develop mutual understanding of each other’s roles and responsibilities and to plan strategies for district improvement. The program premiered last year to rave reviews.

This year’s highly interactive program will take place from Friday evening, February 3, through late-afternoon on Saturday, February 4, at the Doral Forrestal in Princeton.

Tools and Techniques  Participants will leave on Saturday with tools and techniques to—improve communication and enhance collaboration; analyze where the district is now and where they want it to be; develop a team charter; set district and team goals; develop a professional growth plan; solve problems; plan for change; and measure and communicate change.

Most of the program is devoted to small group activities led by NJSBA Field Service and Inservice Education staff. Exercises will build from session to session, culminating in a “Where Do We Go from Here?” planning session on Saturday.

When the district’s leadership team has a solid working relationship, its members focus on the critical issues of serving the needs of children and promoting student achievement. Therefore, the more participants from an individual school district, the more productive the experience will be. (The program, however, is open to individual board members.)

Academy Credit  Board members will earn three Board Member Academy credits toward their CBM or MBM. If a district sends enough members to qualify for Board Certification credit, as outlined in the Board Member Academy Catalog, three Board Certification credits will also be awarded.

The cost, including room, meals and materials, is $325 for a single and $245 for a double. The registration fee for commuters is $170. Enrollment is limited. Have your business administrator contact Charlene Hendrix at 609-278-5232 to register you and your team for the Board-Superintendent Institute.
