The ACES energy aggregation program, sponsored by NJSBA, NJASA and NJASBO, is preparing to go out to bid for a new electric supply contract for larger usage accounts this spring. New Jersey electric utilities charge certain schools and other customers with large usage accounts under a tariff that is based on the spot market hourly price for energy. This tariff group is known as the commercial and industrial pricing (CIEP) group.
Most public school accounts are not served under this tariff. However, those districts with accounts in the CIEP group have an opportunity for significant savings by bidding out this service to competitive retail power suppliers.
To determine if your district has any accounts on the CIEP rate, examine its electric bills to identify any accounts (1) that have a demand above 1250 kilowatts or (2) which are on primary or transmission voltage.
If your district has accounts in the CIEP group, it should be included in the ACES request for electric supply bids that will be issued this Spring. (School district accounts that were included in the previous CIEP contracts, awarded in May 2004, will be included in this spring’s request for bids.
Please contact Carol Friedman, ACES administrator at Carol.Friedman@gabelassociates.com or 732-296-0770 for further information.
Customers with accounts in the rate classes listed below are charged CIEP rates.
