Sex Segregation in Education
Sponsored by The Public Education Institute and State Department of Education, May 12, 8:30 a.m. 1 p.m, Labor Education Center, Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
This workshop addresses sex segregation in high school career and technical education paths, based on a report by the National Women’s Law Center. Jocelyn Samuels, vice president for education and employment of the center, will be the key speaker. New Jersey is one of 12 states examined in the report for determining progress in recruiting and retaining students in nontraditional courses. The data show disappointing results in reducing gender disparities in career and technical education. Discussion will focus on how to encourage female and male students to pursue well-paid fields in selected trades and technology areas.
