Action Alert NJSBA issued an Action Alert late last week, urging members to contact their legislators and advocate changes in the proposed state budget.

“NJSBA understands that the State of New Jersey is experiencing tough fiscal times, and is not asking state lawmakers for unreasonable increases in funding at a time when the state is facing a budget shortfall of $4 billion,” reads the alert.

“Rather, NJSBA is recommending that the state reallocate proposed spending more effectively and make legislative changes that would enable school districts to implement more creative cost-saving measures.”

New Budget Analysis On March 21, Governor Corzine announced the major components of his proposed budget. The Assembly Budget Committee and the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee held public hearings on the proposal this month. During the next few weeks, various departments of state government will weigh in on the proposed budget. After that, a 2006-07 appropriations bill will be introduced in the Legislature.

NJSBA has developed a new analysis of the administration’s proposed budget, based on detailed information released recently.
