I am honored to be chosen by NJSBA’s Nominating Committee to serve in the capacity of President. School board members face an incredible challenge in our mission to educate our children. In a post S-1701 environment compounded by state fiscal problems of massive proportions, we can expect public education to be the focal point of any fiscal reform efforts. School board members are the largest group of elected and appointed officials in the state and the only group whose primary focus is a quality, accessible public education for all children. There has never been a more critical time for NJSBA to build partnerships and relationships at all levels to assure that we have a seat at the table during these important discussions. I look forward to bringing our association together as a cohesive team to engage our public in supporting public education for New Jersey’s children both philosophically and financially.

I am honored to be selected by the Nominating Committee to serve as NJSBA’s vice president for county activities for a second term. During the last two years, I traveled throughout the state to re-engage our members in critical issues, such as S-1701 and property tax reform. Through the Federal Relations Network, I have met with members of our state’s Congressional Delegation to advocate funding of special education requirements and improvements to No Child Left Behind.

School board members face challenging times in our mission to educate our children. The implementation of No Child Left Behind, rising costs, increasing enrollment, and dwindling resources are clearly a call to action. I look forward to working with the County Association Leadership to support training opportunities and effective communication that will empower board members to meet these challenges.

Behind NJSBA are 600+ school boards giving a voice of strength and numbers in addressing the issues, development and evolvement of public education. The Vice President for Legislation/Resolutions is a vital leader and partner in this role. My background serves as a rich foundation to assume such leadership.
