Is your district prepared for the possibility of an Avian flu pandemic?
Children, ages 5 to 18, tend to be the biggest spreaders of flu viruses, experts say. If a worldwide flu pandemic reaches New Jersey, schools would need to take action to slow the spread of the disease while continuing their educational missioneven in the face of school closings.
Policies and Plans NJSBA’s Critical Policy Reference Manual includes an updated model policy (5141, “Health”) that addresses this serious health issue.
In addition, NJSBA recommends that school officials consult the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s School Planning checklist to coordinate a response and to control infection.
NJSBA’s Policy Clearinghouse would also like to share individual district pandemic plans and policies. If your district already has such a plan or policy in place, please send a copy as an e-mail attachment to dbosted@njsba.org.
