Davy Named New Ed Commissioner

Gov. Jon S. Corzine announced on Tuesday that he will nominate Lucile Davy to serve as Commissioner of Education. The president of the New Jersey School Boards Association applauded the move.

“In her role as acting commissioner, Lucille Davy has been open, communicative and attuned to local school districts’ concerns about the state’s standardized testing system, improved academic standards for our high school students and school district monitoring,” said Kevin E. Ciak, NJSBA president.  “She has a firm understanding of education issues and understands the functions and responsibilities of local boards of education.

“The commissioner of education will play a critical role in the months ahead during the debate over school finance, property tax reform and school district organization.  The New Jersey School Boards Association looks forward to continue working with her.”

Davy was first appointed acting education commissioner in 2005. Previously she served as special counsel to the governor on education. She earned a degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and a bachelor’s in mathematics from Seton Hall University.
