Davy Named Ed Chief

The state Senate unanimously approved the appointment of Lucille E. Davy on Monday to become New Jersey’s new education commissioner.

“NJSBA has benefited from an excellent working relationship with Lucille in her role as the acting commissioner of education and, prior to that, the governor’s education counsel,” said Edwina M. Lee, NJSBA executive director.

“She has been open, communicative and attuned to local school districts’ concerns about the state’s standardized testing system, improved academic standards for our high school students and school district monitoring.”

Davy will be responsible for overseeing more than 2,400 public schools in the Garden State. She has served as acting commissioner of education since September 2005.

Davy earned a degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and a bachelor’s in mathematics from Seton Hall University.

The commissioner will be the Critical Issues speaker at Workshop 2006 at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
