Recognition Month in New Jersey

New Jersey’s sixth annual School Board Recognition Month will take place in January 2007, and NJSBA will provide a number of ways for communities to recognize the contributions of local board of education.

The recognition month was created as a way to thank current and former school board members for their work on behalf of their communities.

NJSBA will devote a section of its Web site to sample resolutions and news releases that can be used by local boards, municipal and county governing bodies, county school boards associations, and parent-teacher organizations to thank local board members for their efforts to improve education.

NJSBA also will post the resolution that the State Board of Education traditionally passes, as well as the governor’s proclamation recognizing January as School Board Recognition Month in New Jersey.

The National School Boards Association began School Board Recognition Month in the early 1990s. Other states followed suit by dedicating one month of the year to recognize the contributions of their local board members.
