Certified Board Leader Courses Scheduled

NJSBA will present two Certified Board Leader (CBL) courses, Focusing the Board on Student Achievement and Parliamentary Procedure, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jan. 20 at the Raritan Valley Academy, Middlesex Regional Educational Services Commission in Piscataway.

Focusing the Board on Student Achievement is geared to help participants answer: How can my school district define student achievement? How can we recognize, improve and measure it? How can school boards make student achievement part of every public meeting?

Outstanding practitioners will present the following sessions:

  • Measuring Student Achievement: Robert L. Copeland, Piscataway School District superintendent and the New Jersey 2006 Superintendent of the Year.

  • Curriculum and Success: Dr. Antoinette Rath, Mount Laurel superintendent.

  • Board Business: Dr. John Kazmark, Mountain Lakes superintendent, and Susan McCusker, board president.

Parliamentary Procedure will help your school board counter the old saying, “Meetings are events in which minutes are taken and hours are wasted.” By following Robert’s Rules of Order, which are universally accepted meeting procedures, your board will operate in the most efficient and effective manner. Through small group discussions, exercises and case studies, you will learn Robert’s Rules and have an opportunity to gain the skills needed to get the job done right.

For either program attended, members will earn two credits toward the Certified Board Leader designation through the NJSBA Board Member Academy.

To register, have your school district business administrator contact Heidi Bullock at (888) 886-5722, ext. 5217. Registration is $125 for members, and $250 for non-members. Visit www.njsba.org for details.
