A new year brings a new and improved superintendent evaluation form from NJSBA.
Developed with input from board members and superintendents, this new document ensures compliance with New Jersey laws and administrative code in a meaningful and user-friendly format.
It is designed to be a collaborative instrument of communication that will ensure that school boards and their superintendents are focused on meeting the needs of every child in their districts.
Improved Student Learning The superintendent evaluation emphasizes progress toward the achievement of goals and objectives previously established by the school board and its superintendent during their annual goal-setting session. In addition, it refocuses the board-superintendent team on activities, which have resulted in improved student learning. It also assists them in identifying areas that may require additional attention.
As in the past, once a superintendent has submitted a self-evaluation on the goals, the board completes its assessment. The leadership skills portion of the evaluation has been redesigned to use more objective criteria aligned with a superintendent’s job description and board policy. New categories of evaluation of executive skills are adapted from the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium.
