Mobilizing School Boards

More than 65 members of NJSBA’s Legislative Committee, County Association Leadership and Urban Boards Committee gathered on Saturday in Monroe Township to formulate strategy and share “best practices” to advocate the interests of public education before state lawmakers and within their communities. Members received updates on issues that emanated from the Legislature’s special session on property tax reform and also discussed effective means of two-way communication between NJSBA’s leadership and its members.

Jonathan Hodges, Paterson Board of Education, discusses regulations facing Abbott and state take-over districts.

Joseph Fiscicaro, Lenape Regional, asks about the “super” county superintendent bill. At right is Elbert Smith, Hillside, chair of the Urban Boards Committee.

Richard Snyder, Ramsey, discusses countywide efforts to disseminate legislative calls to action.

From left, Karen Sorbello and Marie Lavigne, Magnolia; and Jane Hutchinson, Wayne.

Board Members listen intently and take notes while NJSBA officers and staff provide updates on developments in Trenton.
