Justices to Discuss Abbott—WEB EXTRA

Five former Supreme Court justices will discuss the impact of the landmark Abbott v. Burke decision during a Sept. 19 program in New Brunswick.

The conference, “Equalizing Educational Opportunity in New Jersey,” is being sponsored by the Public Education Institute, the state Bar Foundation, and the Rutgers-Newark Institute on Education Law and Policy.  Several state-level education organizations, including NJSBA, are co-sponsoring the program.

New Jersey judges and lawyers overwhelmingly selected the Abbott case as the most important state court decision of the 20th Century.

Former state Supreme Court Justices Deborah Portiz, James Coleman, Alan Handler, Daniel O’Hern and Gary Stein will take part in the discussion and respond to questions from the audience.

The Sept. 19 program will run from 9:15 a.m. to noon at the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, One Constitution Square, New Brunswick. For more information, email rupei@rci.rutgers.edu or call (732) 564-0081.
