Teacher Contract Negotiations Continue in 117 Districts
As schools reopen this week, approximately 117 New Jersey school districts remain in contract negotiations, according to NJSBA.

NJSBA Announces Sale of Northern Field Office
NJSBA President Kevin E. Ciak has announced the pending sale of the Association’s West Caldwell field office. The sale of the northern office is an integral part of a plan, approved by the Board of Directors in May, to finance the construction of a new headquarters and training center.

NJSBA Board of Directors to Meet
In accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act, notice is hereby provided of a meeting of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey School Boards Association.

Audit Questions DOE Oversight
A recent audit has found the New Jersey Department of Education is understaffed and not adequately trained to meet the increased duties that will be required with the state’s new school monitoring system.
School Violence Edges Up Slightly
New Jersey’s 2,400 public schools saw a 2 percent increase in reports of violence, vandalism and substance abuse last year, which state officials attributed in part to a heightened awareness of harassment and bullying.
Obituary: Wesley Lance, an Author of New Jersey’s Constitution
Edwina M. Lee, executive director of the New Jersey School Boards Association, extended the organization’s condolences to the family of former New Jersey State Senate President Wesley L. Lance, who passed away Aug. 25 at the age of 98.
Obituary: Dr. Boyle, Somerset ESC Superintendent
Dr. Thomas F. Boyle, superintendent of the Somerset County Educational Services Commission for the past 10 years, died Aug. 25 at the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. He was 60.
