An article in last week’s School Board Notes reported on recent decisions by the New Jersey School Ethics Commission. In one of the decisions (In The Matter of Joseph Atallo), the ethics commission recommended that a local school board member be suspended for one year. Penalties recommended by the ethics commission can be rejected, modified or approved by the Commissioner of Education, who makes the actual determination of the case at the administrative level. The education commissioner has not yet issued a ruling on this matter.
