Lame Duck Legislature Could Take on School Funding
Senate President Dick Codey and Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts last week dispelled any misperceptions that the Legislature would not be willing to address a new school funding system when it reconvenes after the Nov. 6 general election.
Slow Progress Toward Inclusion—NJSBA Study
New Jersey’s public schools have made slow progress in placing special education students in less restrictive settings, according to “Financing Special Education in New Jersey,” the NJSBA-commissioned study of special education funding and practices released on Sept. 20.

New Jersey fourth and eighth graders ranked among the best in the nation in both reading and math on the latest administration of the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the “Nation’s Report Card.”

Voters last week approved four of the school construction proposals that were on the ballot in nine districts, according to NJSBA.

Hitler Youth Buttons Allowed at School
A federal court on Sept. 20 allowed two Bayonne students to protest the district’s mandatory uniform policy by wearing buttons that pictured a Hitler youth group.

For all districts that pre-paid registration fees on or before Sept. 28, Workshop badges will be mailed to the district’s board secretary/school business administrator.
