Voters in Four Districts Approve
$88 Million in School Construction

Voters last week approved four of the school construction proposals that were on the ballot in nine districts, according to NJSBA.

Of the $88.68 million approved on Sept. 25, $54.1 million would qualify for state aid.

The largest project on the ballot was an $81.7 million proposal for a new high school approved by voters in the Greater Egg Harbor Regional district in Atlantic County. Referendums also passed in Dumont in Bergen County; Alexandria Township in Hunterdon County; and Mansfield Township in Warren County.

School construction proposals were rejected in Rancocas Valley Regional in Burlington County; Milford in Hunterdon County; Butler in Morris County; Ringwood in Passaic County; and North Warren Regional in Warren County.

So far in 2007, voters have approved 23 of 35 school-construction proposals for a total of $195.7 million. The remaining date for school-construction ballot questions this year is Dec. 11. NJSBA is the only statewide organization that tracks the success of school construction referendums.

More information about the Sept. 25 special school election can be found at NJSBA's news release online.
