NSBA Call to Action—WEB EXTRA

The National School Boards Association is urging local board members to contact their senators to urge them to vote in favor of the Fiscal 2008 Labor-Health & Human Services-Education spending bill (S. 1710).

The Senate is scheduled to begin floor debate on Oct. 17 on S. 1710.  Senate leaders are trying to pass the bill this week and conference it with the House-passed spending bill for education (H.R. 3043) to reconcile the difference.

Although the President has voiced his intention to veto the legislation, there is support from a broad coalition of more than 1,000 groups representing the education and healthcare communities to urge the Senate’s passage of the measure, as well as the enactment of a final spending bill that includes the funding increases critical to education and related programs.

Your Advocacy Tools  Board members are urged to send an e-mail or fax to their senator. NJSBA is offering an online prewritten letter as a template.

Board members can also call their senators at (202) 224-3121, the U.S. Capitol Switchboard.

Additional talking points are available for board members to use when they communicate with their senators.  Read more details about the proposed funding levels for Title I and IDEA in H.R. 3043 .

Contact Kathleen Branch of NSBA’s Office of Advocacy via e-mail or by calling (703) 838-6735 with any questions or feedback.
