15 New Jerseyans Inducted into Hall of Fame

The New Jersey Hall of Fame announced its first 15 inductees last week. Thousands of people voted online and by ballot among 25 nominees.

The Hall of Fame was created by state law in 2005 to showcase New Jersey’s contributions to the nation and the world. NJSBA was represented on the Hall’s steering committee.

Inductees in the five categories include:

  • Arts and entertainment: Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra and Meryl Streep.

  • History: Thomas Alva Edison, Albert Einstein and Clara Barton.

  • Sports: Yogi Berra, Sen. Bill Bradley and coach Vince Lombardi.

  • Enterprise: Astronaut Buzz Aldrin and business leaders Malcolm Forbes and Robert Wood Johnson II.

  • General: Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, author Toni Morrison and abolitionist Harriet Tubman.
An induction ceremony is scheduled for May 4 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. Organizers also want to raise $10 million to build a museum at the Meadowlands sports complex.
