NJSBA’s Semiannual Delegate Assembly met at the Wyndham Conference Center, Plainsboro, on Nov. 17 to consider one resolution and the sunset review of the NJSBA Positions and Policies On Education Manual, Section 6000 (Instruction) and Section 7000 (Construction, Remodeling and Renovation).
Resolution Resolution No. 1 from Sayreville Board of Education (Middlesex) called upon the Association to adopt revised policy language to the NJSBA Manual of Policies and Positions on Education, File Code 6115, stating that NJSBA believes particular exercises for commemorative holidays should be left to the discretion of local boards of education and that NJSBA believes that a free public education would not be possible without the sacrifices of our veterans and that students should be made aware of the significance of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Approved with the following substitute policy language:
Observances of Commemorative Days The NJSBA believes particular exercises for the observance of commemorative days in public schools should be left to the discretion of local boards of education.
The NJSBA believes that a free and public education would not be possible without the sacrifices of the men and women who served and fought for our country and those who died to preserve our democracy and that pupils should be made aware of the contributions of our military veterans and the significance of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Sunset Review The delegates also approved the sunset review of all policies classified as Section 6000 (Instruction) and 7000 (Construction, Remodeling and Renovation) of NJSBA’s Manual of Positions and Policies on Education.
