Administration Unveils ABC’s of New Funding Formula
During a briefing for education stakeholders last week, Gov. Jon S. Corzine and Education Commissioner Lucille E. Davy described the structure of a new school funding formula that they want in place for 2008-2009.
NJSBA Raises Concern about Wealth-Based Special-Ed Aid
With the introduction of a new state school funding formula imminent, NJSBA executive director Marie S. Bilik recently outlined the organization’s beliefs and concerns about school finance in New Jersey.

NJSBA will provide webinars and Web-based training opportunities for members who are required to take the mandatory training under the School District Accountability Act—those who are in the second and third years of their first terms in office, or any board member in his or her first year of a subsequent term.
Burden of Proof Bill Passes Senate Education Committee
The Senate Education Committee last week released a bill that, if enacted, would return the burden of proof to school districts in special education disputes.

Bill Would Require Schools to Report Suspicious Absences
A Senate committee released legislation that would require school districts to notify the Division of Youth and Family Services of long-term unexcused absences.

New Jersey’s school food received a grade of B, according to a report by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, which ranked each state’s school nutritional standards.
