Beginning this month, NJSBA has modified the schedule for telephone access to its staff attorneys. As always, an attorney will be available by telephone every day of the workweek. However, accessibility will be between the hours of 1 to 5 p.m. Exceptions to the afternoon hours will be made in urgent situations.

The revision reflects the priorities of NJSBA members as expressed in the 2007 Member Survey and enables the NJSBA legal staff to devote its energies toward those services identified in the survey as providing the most benefit to board members and their districts.

Under the attorney-of-the-day service, an NJSBA staff attorney is available to provide legal information to school board members, board administrators, board attorneys and other members of the legal and educational community. Besides fielding hundreds of inquiries from public school officials each month, NJSBA’s legal staff provides services ranging from publications and presentations to submitting briefs as “friend of the court” in matters involving issues of statewide importance.
