School board members will have their choice of two leadership seminars this month, as NJSBA presents training programs to help school boards bring about necessary change and run effective meetings.
Planning for Change and Planning and Executing Successful Meetings will be held simultaneously at the Middlesex Regional Educational Services Commission in Piscataway from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.
Planning for Change will help board members enhance their leadership skills by discussing how to understand when change is needed, how to prepare for it by fostering a sense of collaboration, and how to successfully overcome resistance to change. The program will also cover the process of gaining commitment from others and developing goal and priority-setting skills.
Planning and Executing Successful Meetings provides both new and experienced board members with the skills necessary to plan and lead effective board meetings, create a solid agenda, and practice consensus building. While boards may conduct their meetings differently, there are certain techniques and processes that all boards should utilize. The program will feature hands-on activities and real-life scenarios. This course is an expanded version of the material covered in NJSBA’s popular CD-ROM course, Conducting Effective Meetings.
Each program carries 2 NJSBA Board Member Academy credits. For information on the programs, go to the “Training and Conferences” section of NJSBA's Web site. To register, board members should have their business administrator contact NJSBA’s Call Center by e-mail or by calling (888) 886-5722, ext. 5217. |
