As the April school elections draw near, NJSBA has scheduled its 2008 School Public Relations Forum for Friday, Jan. 25 to help districts communicate about proposed budgets, understand their legal limitations in a budget campaign, and learn how to engage the media.
The program will include three parts. “Getting Out the ‘Yes’ Vote” will examine how a regional school district serving multiple communities reversed the trend of budget defeats through positive face-to-face communication. The presenter is the Dr. Charles M. Shaddow, superintendent of North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District.
An expert from NJSBA’s legal staff will review the “Legal Do’s and Don’ts of School Budget Campaigns.” The third part of the program, “Your Budget and the Media,” will feature a panel including John Mooney, education writer for the Star-Ledger; Anita Shaffer, metro editor of the Trenton Times; and Teresa Rafferty, director of community education and outreach in the Piscataway Township Public Schools.
The 2008 School Public Relations Forum will be held from 8:45 a.m. to noon (registration 8:15 a.m.) at the RWJ Hamilton Center for Health and Fitness in Mercerville. A registration form can be found online, or contact NJSBA’s Call Center by e-mail or by calling (888) 886-5722, ext. 5217. |
