NJSBA Holds Legislative Reception

On Jan. 8, after the swearing-in of New Jersey’s 213th Legislature, the New Jersey School Boards Association held a reception at the Trenton Marriott.

Nearly 100 attendees watched a live broadcast of Gov. Jon Corzine’s State of the State address, mingled with other board members, and then discussed educational issues with state legislators.

The event, held just one day after the new school funding law was passed by the outgoing legislature, was part of NJSBA’s EAGLE (Education Advocates Grassroots Lobbying Effort) program, which seeks to increase board member participation in advocacy efforts.

“It was an ideal forum for board members to introduce themselves to their legislators in an informal setting,” said Ray Pinney, advocacy coordinator in NJSBA’s governmental relations unit. “Several board members also mentioned to me that they enjoyed the opportunity that the reception gave them to meet and talk with other board members and with NJSBA staff.”
