Family Leave Bill Released By Senate Committee

The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on Monday released the family leave bill (S-786). The measure would provide up to six weeks of paid family leave, up to $500 a week, for employees throughout the state, including those employees in school districts. The bill is sponsored by Sen. Stephen M. Sweeney (Salem).

NJSBA is working with a coalition of statewide business and industry groups to oppose the bill.

The bill is expected to go to the full Senate for a vote before moving to the General Assembly. An identical version of the bill (A-2080, sponsored by Assemblyman John J. Burzichelli, Salem) is expected to be introduced in the Assembly, which may cause action on the Assembly’s companion bill to occur more quickly.
