NCLB Call to Action Issued

The National School Boards Association has issued a call to action to school boards regarding the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) reauthorization and House Resolution 648.

While NSBA supports the goals of NCLB, the association has identified numerous changes that need to be made. The No Child Left Behind Improvements Act of 2007, H.R. 648, incorporates many of those recommendations.

NSBA’s call to action outlines four steps that local board members can take to urge Congress to move forward on NCLB. Local school boards can:

  • Pass a resolution urging their Congressional representatives to support the NCLB Improvements Act;

  • Fax a letter to House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller (D-CA-7) and Ranking Member Buck McKeon (R-CA- 25), urging the committee to complete the House reauthorization process;

  • Send an e-mail to the board’s Congressional representatives, asking them to co-sponsor H.R. 648; and

  • Write an op-ed to send to the board’s local newspaper about NCLB reauthorization.
