New Date Announced for Salary Guide Program

NJSBA has rescheduled the Analyzing and Constructing Salary Guides training program to March 29 at the RWJ Hamilton Conference Center. The program, originally set for Feb. 23, was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Registration is still open to board members who want to attend the March 29 program, designed to equip school board members and administrators with the skills to address their salary guide concerns.

Participants will learn the process of salary guide construction, techniques for addressing salary guide distortion, and strategies to effectively negotiate guide changes.

Districts that participated in past NJSBA salary guide training have reported improvements. For instance, one district eliminated 19 balloon steps from its guide, the largest of which represented a 15-percent increment; the largest increment on the district’s new guide is now 4.4 percent. Other districts have been able to attract and retain new teachers by changing noncompetitive starting salaries and small increments at the lower steps of the guide, while eliminating large salary steps at the high end of the guide.
