Residents who are not registered to vote have until Tuesday, March 25 if they want to participate in the 2008 Annual School Election.
On Tuesday, April 15, voters will decide their school district’s proposed 2008-2009 school budgets and select the people to represent them on their local boards of education. Elections will take place in 554 of the state’s 603 school districts, as voters choose candidates to fill more than 1,500 school board seats.
“Local boards of education will be making tough financial decisions to help their districts attract and retain highly-skilled teachers, and advance their students academically, while still maintaining sensitivity toward taxpayers,” said Kevin E. Ciak, NJSBA president. “We encourage New Jersey residents to exercise their right to vote and to take part in their communities’ public education systems.”
Registration Voter registration information is available through the office of the county clerk or the office of the municipal clerk. To become a registered voter, a person must be at least 18 years old by the election date, a U.S. citizen, a state resident, and must reside in the county and municipality where they plan to vote for 30 days prior to the election. To participate in the April 15 Annual School Election, residents who are not currently registered must do so with their county board of elections or county superintendent of elections by Tuesday, March 25.
