Newly elected school board members can satisfy their training requirements under the School Ethics Act at the NJSBA Weekend Orientation Conference to be held June 6-8.
Topics covered at the orientation will include the responsibilities, boundaries and methods of effective school governance, as well as the mandates of the Sunshine Law and the School Ethics Act. Also included will be the fundamentals of policymaking, school finance, collective bargaining, the state’s NJQSAC school-monitoring system, curriculum, and evaluating the superintendent.
The conference is designed to be highly interactive; it includes presentations by specialists, small group analyses of case studies, panel discussions, mock board meetings and problem simulations. Experienced board members and NJSBA staff will be available for questions and additional discussion.
The program will be held at the Wyndham Princeton Forrestal Hotel & Conference Center starting at 5:45 p.m. Friday and ending midday Sunday.
The cost is $340 per person, which includes materials and meals. Registration can be done on NJSBA's Web site. For registration, go to NJSBA’s Web site at www.njsba.org and select the “Programs” link under the “Training and Conferences” tab, and select “Weekend Orientation Conferences.” Registration can also be done by contacting the NJSBA Call Center at (888) 886-5722 ext. 5217, or via e-mail.
