Assembly Panel Moves November Vote, Administrative Cuts
An Assembly committee on Monday approved bills that would move school board member elections to November and establish 10-percent cuts to some districts’ administrative costs.

Bill Would Expand the Scope of Negotiations
NJSBA is staunchly opposing a bill that would drastically expand the scope of negotiations to include all matters regarding the terms and conditions of public employment that are not specifically exempt from collective bargaining by state law.

Bill Would Eliminate Year Notice for Superintendent
The Assembly Education Committee on Monday released a bill that would abolish the one-year notice that school boards are required to provide superintendents if the board decides not to renew the contract.

Senate Committee OKs Tax Credit Vouchers
The Senate Economic Growth Committee on May 8 released S-1607, a tax credit voucher bill.

NJSBA Seeks Regulation Changes
NJSBA officials on Monday presented a list of concerns to Education Commissioner Lucille E. Davy about proposed regulations that would affect school board training, define “unreasonable expenditures,” orchestrate plans for regionalizing schools, and give sweeping authority to the executive county school superintendents.
