Advanced Board Member Training Deadline Extended for 2007-2008—Web Extra

NJSBA has good news for the experienced board members who have not taken their mandated training.

Board members in the second or third year of their first term in office, or in the first year of any subsequent term during 2007-08—but who did not fulfill the board member training mandate under the School District Accountability Act—have until May 30 to do so.

The Association reached an understanding with the School Ethics Commission (SEC), that Orders to Show Cause would not be issued before that date to board members who received warning letters from the SEC. The warning letters provide notice to school board members that they need to take mandated training, and the Order to Show Cause is the first legal step toward what could lead to removal from the board for noncompliance with the law.

The course may be taken through NJSBA’s Web-based option. To register, have your business administrator e-mail your name, district, county, and e-mail address to hbullock@njsba.org, or contact NJSBA’s Call Center at (609) 278-5217 for further information.

As soon as the registration is processed, you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing your user name and password, instructions for signing on, downloading materials, and returning the final assessment so you can receive credit for meeting the mandate.
