Students, parents and educators from throughout the state gathered at The Midland School in North Branch on Friday, May 16 to celebrate Special Education Week in New Jersey. NJSBA and ASAH, a non-profit organization of New Jersey private schools and agencies serving students with disabilities, have sponsored the event for 24 years. This year’s theme was “Building the Future, One Student at a Time.”
Debra Eckert-Casha, of the New Jersey State Board of Education, presented a proclamation from Gov. Jon S. Corzine recognizing the achievements of the state’s 236,000 special education students and the commitment of their parents and teachers.
Thirteen New Jersey schools were honored as part of NJSBA and ASAH’s Innovations in Special Education program for exceptional education programs.
The celebration also featured fun and learning activities for some 1,000 special education students.
