NJSBA At Your Service

Training: NJSBA offered over 200 training opportunities over the past school year, on topics ranging from budgeting, finance and policy to leadership, labor and legal issues.  That included 22 Board Member Academy programs … approximately 170 sessions and other learning opportunities at Workshop … 15 programs at county school boards associations on the state’s new NJQSAC school-monitoring system … three online webinars … and a Web-based training that was accessed hundreds of times by individual board members.  Now that a recent state law requires more board members to take NJSBA-developed training, the Association will continue to improve and expand its training opportunities.

Media Relations: When reporters need information about New Jersey’s public schools and their school boards, who do they call? Frequently, daily newspapers like the New York Times, the Star-Ledger the Asbury Park Press—as well as smaller weekly newspapers, and local radio and television stations—call NJSBA’s Communications Department, which fields more than 1,000 reporter queries a year. NJSBA uses those contact opportunities to advocate the position of school boards, and to inform the community about public education. Moreover, NJSBA’s press office can provide perspective and accurate information about issues facing local school boards.
