Highlights of NJSBA's Board of Directors Meeting

The meeting of NJSBA’s Board of Directors took place on Friday, March 19 at the Wyndham Princeton Forrestal Conference Center/Hotel in Plainsboro. Action taken included:

  • Administered the oath of office to Board of Directors alternates Marsha Hershman (Urban Boards), and Joseph Biagianti (Monmouth).
  • Received update on the headquarters renovation project at 413 W. State St., Trenton. This included a budget analysis of construction costs as well as updated pictures and video footage of the building’s interior during renovation.
  • Approved open session minutes of the Jan. 22 Board of Directors meeting.
  • Approved donation for National School Boards Association’s Center for Public Education.
  • Approved 2010 Legislative Agenda.
  • Approved second reading of Governance and Operations Policies File Code: GO/3515.2, Telephone. The first reading of this policy was approved at the board’s Jan. 22 meeting.
  • Discussed preliminary 2010-2011 budget parameters.
  • Heard an update on 2010 Workshop, including new format and pictures of the new location in Somerset.
  • Heard presentation on Gov. Christie’s budget proposal for 2010-2011, presented by Frank Belluscio, NJSBA communications director, and Michael Vrancik, NJSBA director of governmental relations.
  • Received the report of the President.
  • Received the report of the Executive Director.
  • Information items included a legal case summary; endorsement letter for New Jersey Commissioner of Education Bret Schundler; and correspondence received from school board member Thomas Ritter pertaining to NJSBA’s budget for 2010-2011.
