Nominations by Petition for NJSBA Office

As a reminder, candidates for NJSBA officer positions may be nominated by petition, signed by at least 10 members from at least five different district boards of education, and filed with the Executive Director and received no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

NJSBA has placed on its Web site a sample petition. Nominations by petition should be sent via Federal Express or registered/receipt requested.

When submitting nominations by petition, candidates are requested to submit a “head and shoulders” photo. Candidates must also file a brief online resume, which includes a 200-word statement explaining why they are seeking the position.

Besides completing the nominating petition and resume/statement form, the written consent of the candidate for nomination by petition must be filed with NJSBA’s Executive Director, also by 5 p.m. March 31.

Instructions may be obtained from Barbara Deveney in NJSBA’s Executive Office by e-mail or by calling (609) 278-5256.

Nominations at the DA Nominations from the floor of NJSBA’s May 15 Delegate Assembly may be made at any appropriate time after the list submitted by the Nominating Committee is put in nomination and before the opening of the polls for the casting of ballots. The nominator shall have the written consent of the candidates for nomination and present it to the presiding officer at the time the nomination is made. No candidate may be nominated unless he or she has previously served one full term as a board member prior to his/her election to office. No candidate who was a member of the Nominating Committee may be nominated from the floor at the forthcoming election.
