A memorial service for Debra Shanley, a member of the Dumont Board of Education and a teacher in Bergenfield, will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 18 at the Frech Funeral Home at 161 Washington Ave. in Dumont.
Shanley was killed April 11 at her home in Dumont. Media accounts reported that Shanley’s husband, Peter, had tried to commit suicide and was in police custody as a suspect in his wife’s murder.
Shanley had served on the school board for more than a decade, serving as vice president and president. She also volunteered with community groups such as the PTA, Cub Scouts, and as chairperson of the Dumont Centennial Celebration. She had recently filed for election to another term as a school board member.
