Legislative Update: Bill Limits School Employees’ Unused Sick and Vacation Leave

A bill that would limit unused sick leave pay and vacation leave carry-forward for school and local employees is expected to be heard by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on Aug. 12. S-2173 (Kyrillos), also permits local employers to pay certain benefits over ten years, and limits sick leave use by public employees prior to retirement.
The bill had been scheduled to be heard by the committee on July 19, however it was not discussed at that time.

S-2072 (Stack), which permits publication of legal notices by governments and individuals on official government websites instead of being published in newspapers, was voted out of committee and is now on second reading in the Senate. S-2072 has the potential to provide school districts with considerable savings.
